What does Silicon Valley think about Helpful Village?

Updated: Aug 7, 2019

On set with 'This Week in Startups' with Jason Calacanis

Great idea and an affordable solution!

Have you seen the interview with Helpful Village in San Francisco that came out this weekend?

As one of the most prominent Startups of the University of California, UC-Berkeley invited Helpful Village's founder, Manuel Acevedo, to meet with one of the most-connected investors in Silicon Valley, Jason Calacanis.

Jason has interviewed a number of big investors in Silicon Valley:

Interviewing Mark Cuban, Investor in Shark Tank ABC, owner of the Dallas Mavericks

Interviewing Chris Sacca, Early investor in Twitter and investor in Shark Tank ABC

Interviewing Peter Thiel, Co-Founder of PayPal and first investor in Facebook

Manuel had a chance to meet with Jason, along with other 19 other entrepreneurs and Helpful Village was selected in the top 4 for his Podcast "This week in Startups", that is popular in Silicon Valley, in particular among investors.

Calacanis is a sharp investor and we have respect for his business instincts but we also disagree with him on certain aspects. In particular, when he says that Helpful Village should focus on the high-income population.

No, Mr. Jason Calacanis, we have no plans to raise our monthly fees. We are committed to the well-being of older adults regardless of their income level and we want to make Helpful Village accessible to 100% of Older Adults.

Helpful Village was born from our founder, Manuel, helping his mom navigate retirement and we are strongly committed to growing the number of Villages and the number of Village members across the country.

As we grow, our team works every day to help Villages in the best way we can and our commitment to build a safe and trusted community for Older Adults as well as defend the strong moral values of the Village Movement runs deep.

With the help of other incredible organizations involved in the Village Movement, let’s show Silicon Valley how we can grow the number of Villagers across the nation while remaining the best and most affordable option for Aging-in-Place!
